1. Who holds your information

Original Sin Paintball ("we", "us") runs this website and its apps, Genesis, Verdict and Oracle. If you want to ask about anything on this page, email [email protected] and a real person will read it.

2. The short version

You can read this entire site without an account and without telling us anything about yourself. If you do make an account, we collect the least we can get away with, we do not sell it, and there is no advertising anywhere on the site. Most of what we hold is what you deliberately typed in, and you can change or remove it whenever you like.

3. What we collect

When you create an account, we store your name, your email address, and your password. The password is scrambled before it is saved, using a one-way method, so nobody here can read it, including us. If you forget it we can only help you set a new one.

After that, everything else is up to you. You can add a nickname, a photo, a jersey number, a position, your home state, an Instagram handle, a short bio, and the team you play for. You can also upload team logos, team photos, and gallery images if you run a team or a media page. None of it is required, and you can clear any of it from your account page.

If you send us a message through the contact form, we keep your name, your email address and what you wrote, so we can reply and so we have a record of the conversation.

Two things are collected automatically rather than typed. Your IP address is recorded when you send a contact message and when your browser hits our sign-in and sign-up pages, purely to stop the same address hammering them. And when you sign in, we set one cookie so the site remembers it is you.

4. What we do not do

• We do not sell, rent, or trade your information to anyone, for any amount of money.
• We do not run Google Analytics, advertising pixels, or any tracking that follows you around the internet. There are no tracking cookies on this site at all.
• We do not ask for your personal phone number or your home address, and there is nowhere on the site to enter them. Fields and stores in the directory list a business phone number, but that is a public contact number the operator gave us for their venue, not a private one.
• We do not email you marketing. The only emails Genesis sends are the ones you trigger yourself: a welcome when you join, and a password reset when you ask for one.

5. What other people can see

Genesis is a public record of the paintball scene, so some of what you add is meant to be seen. Your display name, your profile details, your photo and the team you play for appear on public pages once your team approves you onto its roster. Treat your profile as public, because it is.

Your email address is different. It is never shown on a public page, and it is not visible to other members. It is used to sign you in, to send you the two emails above, and so we can contact you if we need to.

6. Cookies and what your browser remembers

We use one cookie, and only after you sign in. It holds a random session code so the site knows you are logged in as you move between Genesis, Verdict and Oracle. It carries no personal information and it expires after thirty days, or immediately when you sign out.

Your browser also remembers a few settings locally, which never leave your device and never reach us: whether you chose light or dark mode, whether you have already seen the welcome pop-up, whether you left a filter panel open or closed, and the last live scoreboard you looked at.

7. Who else touches your information

We use two outside services to run the site, and both can technically see the data they handle:

• Cloudflare hosts the site, the database and the uploaded images. Everything described above is stored on their infrastructure.
• Resend sends our email. It handles your email address and the contents of the messages we send you.

Cloudflare also gives us a basic visitor count, called Cloudflare Web Analytics, so we can see how many people looked at the site and which pages they read. It is worth knowing exactly what that is, because most analytics are far more invasive. It sets no cookies, it does not fingerprint your device, it cannot follow you to other websites, and it does not build any profile of you. It counts page views, and records the rough things every web server sees anyway, such as which country the visit came from and what kind of browser was used. We cannot tell who you are from it.

Both are overseas providers, so your information is stored and processed outside Australia. Nobody else has access, and we do not share your information with any other company, advertiser or data broker.

8. How long we keep it, and getting it removed

We keep your account information for as long as your account exists. You can edit or clear most of it yourself from your account page at any time.

You can close your account yourself at any time, from Sign-in and security on your account page. It removes your contact details and stops you signing in. Results and match records that form part of the historical scene record stay, because they are a record of what happened at public tournaments, but nothing about how to reach you remains. If you would rather we did it for you, or you want everything removed altogether, email [email protected] and ask.

You can also ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to correct something that is wrong, and we will sort it out.

9. Children

Paintball has junior players, and a parent or guardian should be the one setting up an account for anyone under 16 and deciding what goes on their profile. If you believe a child's information is on the site and it should not be, email us and we will take it down.

10. Changes

If we change how any of this works, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If it is a significant change affecting information we already hold, we will tell account holders directly rather than quietly editing the page.
